Mining Manager

The Mining Manager is to provide management, leadership and direction to mining operations and technical teams and mining contractors and to optimise current mining plans in line with organizational targets and generate opportunities for future operational growth.

Responsibilities :

• Develop the operational philosophies, detail those and resource accordingly.
• Ensure all site activities are performed safely, environmentally responsibly and in compliance with government regulations and company policies.
• Establish and maintain relationships with stakeholders who are essential to successful operations
• Provide effective leadership to the Mana mine technical teams to ensure the mine reaches its operating and financial objectives in line with plans and budget.
• Ensure that all operational policies, goals and objectives are fully understood and shared and that mechanisms are in place to facilitate continued open communication on site.
• Mentor, coach and support employees to build a positive and inclusive work environment.
• Develop strategies to extend the Mana mine life through close cooperation with near mine exploration technical teams 
• Provide specialist advice to the Group Projects teams to ensure that all projects involving underground mining can be integrated into existing operations or projects
• Oversee and support the preparation of annual mining operating budgets as well as annual capital budgets.
• Ensure timely and cost-effective implementation of site managed mining capital projects.
• Participate in the negotiation of all contracts pertaining to Mana Mine on-going operations.
• Ensure that all statutory and company internal reporting needs are met and comply with the necessary quality standards for completeness and accuracy.
• Maintain a proactive and highly visible presence throughout the operational site.
• Drive and promote a positive safety culture onsite through initiatives that include visible felt leadership, SAOs and regular inspections.
• Contribute to the professional development of the national workforce through, mentoring, coaching and training

• Bachelor of Mining Engineering degree or equivalent
• Mine Managers Certificate of Competency for underground and surface mining from a recognised centre of mining excellence
• At least 20 years of experience working in the surface and underground mining industry with at least 15 years of this being in industry-leading safe, efficient and highly productive mechanised hard-rock underground mines.
• Experience managing & administering mining and project contracts, including work tendering & adjudicating new contracts plus experience resolving contractual disputes and litigation.
• Demonstrable managerial capability in mining and project roles with at least 10 years experience at Mining Manager / Project Manager level
• Demonstrable solid objective decision making skills supported by the use of sound analysis tools
• Project management experience involving operational improvement, technical studies, operational readiness and production ramp-ups
• Demonstrated leadership and mentoring/developing capacity in a remote location and/or developing country.
• Strong Microsoft Office computer skills.
• Fluent in English with excellent report writing and presentation skills
• Expatriate experience in developing countries, and preferably Africa
• Experience in managing surface mining and civil operations
• Further qualifications in management or mining economics/finance
• French language skills.
