Junior Mine Geologist

• To provide and sustain support to the geological planning and functional services to achieve grade and tonnage delivered with high quality to the process plant
• To control and optimize ore delivery from the mine and stockpiles at the lowest cost.
• To provide ore limits and discrimination between ore types and characterization.
• Deliver supporting services of high quality to meet business requirements in a timely manner when requested.
• To work in direct contact with the splitters, ore spotters and other personal allocated to grade control.
• Compilation and/or review of all mining data and ensure the relevance, necessity and representativity.
• To achieve the above objectives with due consideration to safety, the environment, statutory obligations and the efficient management of the company’s assets and human resources.

Systems

• Contribute toward good communication within the Mining Department and other departments by developing and maintaining a team environment, which is conducive to two-way communication.
• Contribute towards the maintenance of the image of a professional Service Department that is available to provide all services/ duties requested by other Departments.
• Provide assistance to other members of the Mining Department when requested.
• Propose work practice improvement and quality control methodologies.

 Information

• Ensure the production of accurate and timely information for the site customers in compliance with instructions/procedures for assigned tasks.

Pit and Mine Lease Mapping Activities

• Responsible for Geological and Geotechnical pits mapping (identification of structural and or lithological control of mineralisation in all active pits).
• Geological sampling (face; floor; grab sampling etc…)
• Succinct (daily mapping information) and complete (monthly mapping report) with detailed information data and valid interpretations.

Grade Control Fields Activities Management

• Prepare drilling areas pads (bush clearance with bulldozer unit)
• Set out (using Leica DGPS equipment) in-fill holes for Reverse Circulation Drilling
• Fields work control and teamwork management.
• Correct lithological logging of sample chips collected.
• Sampling protocol with high level of confidence.

Dilution and Ore loss Control

• Responsible of minimizing dilution in mining and stockpiling:
  
  • To maximize grade and tonnes.
  • Recovery of all mineralization to maximize ore recovery at the lowest cost.
  • Heave and movement of material.
• Working with production personnel to achieve the above points.

Production Reporting

• Responsible to ensure production data across all the mining activities is captured and reported in a timely manner; this includes daily weekly and monthly timelines.
• Ensure all data is checked and validated to ensure its integrity.

Requirements:

• Geology Degree
• At least 02 years of experience in mining industry
• Experience in open pit mapping.
• Thorough working knowledge of open pit mining activities
• Good knowledge of grade control
• High level of computer skills and knowledge of MS Office Suite, mine design software, etc.
• Strong communication skills, ability to speak and write in English.
• Excellent knowledge of mining operation.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to train less experienced members of the staff.
• Ability to liaise and promote liaison between maintenance, mining and contracting personnel.
